Macedonian banks join SEPA

From October 7th, 2025, Macedonia officially becomes part of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). This historic step will allow citizens and companies in the country to make and receive payments in euros in the same way as in the countries of the European Union and beyond.

Benefits for citizens and companies:

Cheaper: Fees for transactions in euros will be significantly lower compared to previous international payments.

Faster: Money will reach the recipient most often within one business day, regardless of whether the payment goes to Germany, France or any other SEPA country.

Simplified and digital: Instead of a mandatory visit to a branch and extensive documentation, as was the case until now, SEPA payments can be initiated through electronic and mobile banking, which brings greater convenience and time savings.

Why is this important?

For businesses, this means reducing administrative and financial barriers when cooperating with European partners. For citizens, it means easier sending and receiving money – without queues and paper documentation, directly from their own phone or computer.

By joining SEPA, Macedonia is taking a significant step towards European integration and improving the financial infrastructure, bringing benefits that will be directly felt by both households and companies.

  • Costs for citizens are reduced by up to 6 times,
  • Costs for companies are reduced by up to 8 times,
  • Transactions are executed within one business day,
  • Payments become as simple as domestic transfers, to more than 40 member countries of the SEPA zone.
